Trades Program at High School

FAIR LAWN, N.J. (March 16, 2021) - Fair Lawn Public Schools announced that it would be earmarking $3 million from additional state aid to invest in the initial phase of a future CTE Program (career and technical education) at its March 15, 2022, 2022-2023 Budget Presentation Work Session. Fair Lawn Schools received an additional $5 million in state aid for a total aid package of $16,995,292 for the 2022-2023 school year.

Superintendent Nicholas J. Norcia said the district would be exploring a full track, four-year CTE program starting with ninth-grade students, offering trade electives, and reaching out to The Bergen County Technical Schools to plan for a number of options.

“This is the first step for Fair Lawn Public Schools to create a much-needed skilled trades program in the district and provide a way to train our students for a future in skilled labor and address the trade worker shortage,” said Superintendent Nick Norcia. “We are making the commitment to our community and investing in our students’ futures by allocating and utilizing additional state aid without initiating a public referendum,” said Superintendent Nick Norcia.

The district will be holding public presentations at future Board of Education public meetings to provide progress on the program, skilled trade tracks/offerings and to receive public input.
