Fair Lawn educators have dissected the NJ requirements and cross referenced them with our resources to make a user friendly guide for parents to review. Also linked below are details about our curricula as well as all NJ requirements. When reviewing the curriculum, please pay close attention to the "objectives" which describe how we address NJ requirements in our classrooms. When in doubt, ask your child's teacher for details.

Beginning in 2020, Fair Lawn adopted THE GREAT BODY SHOP as our health education resources for health education.

The following statute provides an opt-out option for any instruction in health, family life education or sex education and would apply to any instruction in accordance with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards – Comprehensive Health and Physical Education.
18A:35-4.7

Any child whose parent or guardian presents to the school principal a signed statement that any part of the instructions in health, family life education or sex education is in conflict with his conscience, or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs shall be excused from that portion of the course where such instruction is being given and no penalties as to credit or graduation shall result therefrom.

Beginning in 2022-2023, classroom teachers and/or the district will provide parents with information about opting out rather than having this information collected via Genesis Portal.

2024-2025 Parent Opt Out Letters

In early September, but not on the first day of school, these letters will also be sent to parents from the district, via e-mail, directly to K-8 parents, in early September 2024.

Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.) is a non profit (501C3) organization, supported by dedicated police officers, committed to protecting our youth and communities from the proliferation of drugs, drug related crimes, peer to peer/cyber bullying and violence.
